Cougars hope tomorrow night will be their chance to shine as they take on Batley Bulldogs in front of a national audience.

The Cougar Park clash is being screened live on Sky and promises to be a tense battle with both sides still seeking their first win of the Co-operative Championship campaign.

Keighley started to chip into their nine-point deduction after claiming a bonus point from last week’s defeat in Toulouse but are now ready to properly showcase their talents.

It is hoped there will also be a carnival atmosphere off the pitch, with fans being encouraged to attend in fancy dress and the club putting on a range of entertainment.

And Barry Eaton wants his players to fully enjoy the occasion.

“It’s being televised and we’re at home as well, which is very important to us,” said the Cougars boss.

“Everyone at the club is really looking forward to it and we are on TV twice in the next few weeks, as the Halifax game is being screened as well, so it’s a chance for everyone to showcase themselves.

“We’ve got a point on the board now and we’ve not been far away in the last few weeks. We narrowly lost to Toulouse in the league and cup and to Leigh, when we felt we deserved a bonus point.

“It’s a quick turnaround before the Batley game and we are more concerned about ourselves than the opposition because we know if we improve the areas we’re working on, we’ll start to get results.”

Although Cougars have consistently fallen behind early in games this season, Eaton is encouraged by the strength of their finishes, something he credits to the work of strength and conditioning coach Paul Royston.

He said: “We knew we had to improve massively in terms of strength and conditioning and that’s one thing which has stood out so far because we’re finishing every game strong.

“Paul Royston deserves huge praise for that because the players have really responded to him.

“The only concerns are on the coaching side and in terms of the players’ mentality.

“We always knew we had a tough task this season but we remain confident.”

Brendon Rawlins (shoulder) and Scott Law (groin) are out but George Rayner should play after going off injured against Toulouse.

Keighley Cougars have been drawn at home to York City Knights in the quarter-finals of the Northern Rail Cup on the weekend of June 5-6.

"They are one of the favourites for promotion from Championship One but it is certainly one of the draws that we were hoping for," said Cougars' head coach Barry Eaton.

"And it is certainly better than the Challenge Cup draws we have had in recent seasons.

"However, there are plenty of tough games ahead for us before then. We have three games in seven days - Good Friday, Easter Monday and the following Thursday against Halifax."

Holders Widnes will face Barrow in a repeat of last year’s final in another last-eight tie.

The Vikings, who defeated the Raiders 34-18 in the 2009 showpiece at Blackpool, gained a 22-20 win when the sides met at the Stobart Stadium in the pool phase of this season’s competition.

Batley Bulldogs are at home to Sheffield Eagles, while Hunslet Hawks are rewarded for their superb victory over Halifax with a home tie against Leigh Centurions.

One tie will be brought forward for live screening on Sky on Thursday, June 3.
