Toulouse 34, Cougars 26

The Cougars suffered a second defeat in three weeks against Toulouse after missing out by six tries to five in their Championship clash.

It was always going to be a tough task to win on French soil but Keighley made a real fist of it after previously losing at home in the Challenge Cup.

Barry Eaton’s side conceded two tries within the first five minutes, Clement Bienes and Cedric Gay scoring, with Nathan Wynn adding one conversion.

Brendan Worth was sent off midway through the first half and the Cougars responded with tries from Danny Jones and Ollie Pursglove.

But Gay scored again before the break and Rory Bromley crossed two minutes after half-time, Wynn adding one conversion, to put Toulouse back in control.

Sebastien Planas touched down and Wynn kicked the conversion but Gavin Duffy and Chris Baines struck back for the visitors, two goals from Jones cutting the gap to eight points.

Keighley were in with a chance until Kevin Larroyer crossed, Wynn converting, and James Feather’s converted try served only as a consolation.
