Barry Eaton will get a first look at most of his new signings when the Cougars tackle a Keighley ARL Select side on Sunday.

The opening pre-season friendly is sure to be spicy as the town's best amateurs get the chance to face their professional counterparts.

Keighley Town, Silsden and Keighley Albion will all be represented in the clash but Eaton is more keen to see his own charges in action.

The likes of Neil Lowe, Andy Shickell, Jermaine Wray, Danny Jones and George Rayner could all make their debuts after close-season moves to Cougar Park.

Last season's player of the year Chris Redfearn and Wayne Sutcliffe won't be risked due to slight knee problems but Eaton plans on fielding an otherwise strong side including Wharfedale RU trialist James Hutchinson.

Meanwhile, former Academy back-rower Shane Walton is looking to be the coach's next capture as he seeks a second shot at success with Keighley on Sunday, 3pm.

Eaton said: "Shane came through the Academy with Tom Palmer and Gavin Duffy two years ago and was one of the strongest in that group.

"But, he suffered a bad injury, had to have a shoulder reconstruction and has missed the last 18 months.

"He's back down training with us now though and looking to get back into the professional game.

"Shane's looking fit and healthy and it's possible he'll be playing on Sunday."

Eaton has been boosted by the injury updates on centres Mick Fogerty and Mike Hastings.

Star man Fogerty has been troubled by a wrist injury but two consultants have agreed he doesn't need a major operation.

"It's great news," Eaton said.

"Initially we thought Mick was going to need a bone graft but both gave exactly the same opinion.

"He doesn't need that and it means he can stay in full training apart from weights.

"Mick will have a screw inserted instead and that will heal quicker than the graft.

"The only frustrating thing is it's taken so long to reach this conclusion and he could have had it done before.

"Anyway, he's having it done in early January and it'll be eight to ten weeks before he can play so there's a slight possibility he could be back for the end of the Northern Rail Cup.

"Mike Hastings' shoulder op has been a success too and he should be back by the back end of March."
