Buoyant Cougars play host to leaders Featherstone Rovers on Sunday fully intending gatecrashing the play-off party themselves.

Keighley were written off at the start of the season having finished joint-bottom in 2006.

But after defeating Oldham and Blackpool in successive weeks, and having already seen off high-flying Workington, they have risen to eighth.

Only points difference sees Barry Eaton's men trail York City Knights, who sit in the all-important final play-off spot of seventh.

The coach admits his side are ready to make a push with nine games to go and said: "We've got the teams around us to play, with London next week, Gateshead at home, Hunslet, York and Swinton to come.

"Playing all those teams around us will probably decide where we finish up and I don't think tomorrow will be a massive factor in determining that.

"But, if we could manage to pick up another surprise against Fev it would do us the world of good."

However Rovers, led by former Bradford Northern prop David Hobbs, have only lost twice all season and are currently in ruthless form.

"The way they are playing they are probably the one team who won't slip up like a couple of others have," Eaton said.

"Fev have been on a great run and they seem to continually brush everyone aside.

"We'll be coming up against a quality team that probably has nine ex-Super League players in their ranks but we'll be going in with confidence after two wins on the bounce."

The Cougars will give a late fitness test to Aussie Craig Weston, who has been struggling with an Achilles injury, Eaton standing by to slot back into the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Eaton admitted "it wasn't a very difficult decision" to sign a new two-year deal at Cougar Park yesterday despite other clubs showing an interest.

"There was a couple of enquiries but that's as far as they went and once Keighley offered me the contract, that was it," he said.

"It's nice to be asked about but I'm head coach here and certainly wasn't planning on going anywhere else.

"Hopefully over these next two years we'll get more competitive and be in a position like Featherstone, Oldham and Celtic Crusaders to challenge and maybe get out of this division."
