Paul March is demanding a marked improvement when Cougars travel to face a Dewsbury side aiming to avoid an eighth straight Championship defeat.
Glenn Morrison’s men have faltered badly in recent weeks and March is aiming to pile the misery on his hometown club.
Yet Cougars will head to tomorrow’s clash at Tetley’s Stadium on the back of last weekend’s 32-12 defeat at Doncaster – their third loss in a row – which saw them slump to the bottom of the table.
Player-coach March – whose side were drawn at home to Batley Bulldogs on May 19 in the last 16 of the Northern Rail Cup – said: “The most important thing this weekend is to get our performance right. We let ourselves down against Doncaster at the weekend when we came under pressure after a bright start.
“We went there full of confidence but we didn’t perform for 80 minutes and that will be our focus on Sunday.
“Dewsbury will be desperate to get back to winning ways themselves and we know how important it is.”
March, meanwhile, will again be without half back Scott Leatherbarrow as he recovers from injury.
Matt Bailey also remains sidelined after suffering a setback in his bid to return to action, leaving March to choose from an unchanged squad.
“We’re running with the same squad this week,” said March.
“We’ve worked hard in training this week and have spoken about the importance of getting our performance right.
“If we do that the result should take care of itself.”
