ALBION Sports were involved in surely one of the most madcap FA Vase games of all time on Saturday, as they pulled off an astonishing comeback before beating visiting Padiham on penalties.

The Bradford side were 4-1 down at Horsfall midway through the second half, with Sumaili Cisse’s goal after 32 minutes looking as if it would be just a consolation.

Nathan Cartman’s penalty got the hosts back into the game, before all hell broke loose in the final 10 minutes.

Fernando Moke’s quickfire brace drew Albion level at 4-4, then Cartman looked to have wrapped up the game for the Bradfordians when he netted in the last minute.

But somehow Padiham found a second wind and equalised with the last kick of the game.

With the match finishing 5-5, a penalty shootout was required, which the hosts completed to perfection.

They netted all five of their spot-kicks, through Cartman, Ellis Wade, Aran Basi, Dominic Staunton and Paul Walker, meaning a single miss from Padiham was enough to see them beaten 5-3 in the shootout.

The win takes Albion into the third round of the competition, where they will visit South Liverpool.

Silsden made it all the way through to the last-32 in 2023/24, meaning they only entered the FA Vase at the weekend.

But they began this year’s run in style, Casey Stewart scoring twice in the first half to ensure they beat visiting Ramsbottom United 2-0, whose captain was sent off late on to round off a miserable afternoon.

Silsden will travel to West Didsbury & Chorlton in the third round, a chance for revenge after their hosts knocked them out of the FA Cup back in August.

With Silsden and Albion in cup action and fellow high-flyers Thackley not playing, all eyes were on mid-table duo Campion and Eccleshill United in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

The latter earned a hugely impressive 1-0 home win over third-placed Penistone Church side thanks to a second half own goal.

But Campion were embarrassed at Scotchman Road against Beverley Town, Aidan Day’s goal, after he had missed an early penalty, no consolation whatsoever in a humiliating 5-1 defeat.

Over in the North West Counties Football League First Division North, Bradford side Route One Rovers had the weekend off, but they still had a dispiriting Saturday.

That was because they are now six points adrift of safety, after fellow Marley users Steeton earned a crucial 1-0 home win against Ashton Athletic.

Josh Coe was the hero, scoring the only goal of the game at the death as the Chevrons eased their own relegation fears slightly.

Liversedge can also breathe a little easier, Jack Crook’s goal midway through the second half sealing an excellent 1-0 home win over promotion-chasing North Ferriby, which moves them three points clear of the Northern Premier League East Division drop zone.

That leaves near-neighbours Brighouse Town as the side immediately above the dotted line of doom, after their game at Pontefract Collieries was postponed due to a blockage outside of the ground.

Yorkshire Water did not arrive to fix the problem until teatime, so the game had to be called off due to concerns for supporter safety.

Over in the NPL Premier Division, Guiseley snatched a last-gasp 1-0 win at Mickleover Sports, as Jordan Thewlis returned from injury to grab the only goal.

And there was also an emotional comeback for Lewis Whitham, who came on for his first Lions game in 20 months after a horrific knee injury.

Finally, Farsley Celtic lost 1-0 at Kidderminster Harriers to slip to 18th in the 24-team National League North table.
