ECCLESHILL United grabbed a standout win in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last night.

The Bradford side have made a slow start to the season, and high-flying hosts Handsworth were firm favourites to claim all three points.

But the Eagles flew out of the traps and took a surprise lead after only five minutes through Laurence Sorhaindo.

That was the former Brighouse Town striker’s first goal for Eccleshill, but his buzz was quickly curtailed by a stunning long-range equaliser from Sam Fewkes just before the midway point of the first half.

Mitch Dunne then had a goal disallowed, seemingly for a foul on Rhys Westcarr in the Eccleshill goal, before Fewkes was sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes.

And in appalling wet conditions, Eccleshill made the most of their man advantage, hutting the front on 73 minutes through Mo Farhan Subhani’s deflected effort.

Back on the field, Fewkes almost grabbed a late equaliser, but his half-volley thundered against the post and Eccleshill escaped with a 2-1 victory.

Albion Sports also grabbed an away win, beating Winterton Rangers 2-0 with a dominant performance.

Ellis Wade opened the scoring early on with a fine slotted finish into the far corner, then the Bradford side added a late second through the experienced Nathan Cartman, who lobbed the ball home from 25 yards out.

And Silsden made it a hat-trick of away wins for Bradford District sides in midweek, with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Frickley Athletic.

Kayle Price headed the visitors in front after 20 minutes, before Casey Stewart latched on to a flick on to put them 2-0 up early in the second half.

But Frickley halved the deficit through Charlie Clegg, before an own-goal from Silsden defender Harry Coates drew the hosts level.

Yet it was Silsden who had the last word, Cody Cromack fizzing in a last-minute winner from the edge of the box.

Campion were on home soil, and they suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Penistone Church last night.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead after just six minutes through Ryan Johnson and Nathan Keightley, only for Nicky Boshell to quickly respond by scoring a fine free-kick.

Penistone sealed the win just after the hour mark when Keightley scored from a retaken penalty.

Finally, Brighouse Town had their Northern Premier League East Division home game against Dunston called off due to floodlight issues.
