ALBION Sports left it extremely late to book their spot in the FA Vase first round proper on Friday night.

They drew 1-1 at home to Tadcaster Albion thanks to an 87th minute equaliser from the spot, before holding their nerve to win the subsequent penalty shootout 5-4.

They will now host Boro Rangers in the next round on Saturday, October 19.

Nathan Cartman hit the post for Albion in the first half on Friday night, but it was Tadcaster who went in front just before the break at Horsfall.

Former Thackley man Albert Ibrahimi was fouled by Eisa Faulding and though Kieran Greenway’s initial free-kick was blocked, Elliott Andrew cracked home the rebound from the edge of the box.

Albion dominated the play initially after the interval, Cartman, Faulding and Tabish Hussain all going close.

But home stopper Jordan Porter did well to prevent Andrew from scoring again midway through the second half.

Paul Walker then came close for Albion, before his team-mate and fellow substitute Ryan Conlon was sent off just moments after coming on, following a tangle with Taddy’s Ben Tweed.

Porter then made a save from a long-range Mason Wilson strike, before the 10-man hosts got a late chance to level following a foul in the box on Ellis Wade.

Dom Staunton stepped up to take the spot kick, and sent Sam Green the wrong way to score, despite slipping as he made contact with the ball.

In a chaotic finale, Albion joint-manager Craig Ogilvie was also sent off, while Tadcaster missed a couple of half-chances to score a last-gasp winner.

But the home side survived to take the game to spot-kicks, where both sides missed their first penalty, before the next nine all found the back of the net.

Cartman’s penalty put Albion 5-4 up in the shootout, and Tweed was the eventual fall guy, as his spot-kick was saved by Porter to ensure the home side went through.

Aidan Kirby and Aidan Day scored the goals to send Campion into the first round proper, as the Bradford side won 2-0 at home to Billingham Synthonia.

Campion face another side from the North East in the next round, as they travel to Northallerton Town.

Steeton were also in second qualifying round action, but they went out after a 3-1 defeat at Barnoldswick Town.

Gareth Hill and Will Procter put the hosts 2-0 up at the break only for Alex Stewart to halve the deficit right at the start of the second half.

But Procter’s second goal of the game late on finished off Steeton once and for all.

In the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, Antony Brown scored a last-gasp winner on his debut to ensure Thackley enjoyed a 2-1 home win Hallam.

Finn Donovan had put the Dennyboys in front, only for the South Yorkshire side to equalise on the stroke of half-time through Rio Allan.

Silsden lost 1-0 at Barton Town to a late Elliott Broughton strike, while Eccleshill United went ahead against Parkgate through Zack Sangster, only for their visitors to hit back and claim a 2-1 win courtesy of two goals in two minutes from Luis Afonso Ferreira and Harry Day.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, Liversedge shrugged off the surprise departure of long-serving manager Jonathan Rimmington just hours before kick-off to record a 3-0 derby day win at Brighouse Town.

Jack Degruchy, Omar Sanyang and Jack Crook all found the net for the visitors.

In the NPL Premier Division, Guiseley lost 2-1 at home to Worskop Town, on a bad afternoon which saw Will Longbottom miss a penalty and Adriano Moke sent off for two bookable offences.

Leo Farrell scored for the hosts just after the break, with his strike sandwiched between Worksop goals from Daniel Bramall and Vaughan Redford.

Guiseley have just had a new game added to their calendar, with the FA Trophy third qualifying round draw, which took place this lunchtime, handing them a home tie against Bamber Bridge.

Finally, in National League North, Farsley Celtic lost 1-0 ‘at home’ against Leamington, that game taking place at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena due to ongoing stadium work at The Citadel.

The Celts are away from home this coming Saturday, with their 12:30pm FA Cup third qualifying round tie at Wythenshawe Town being broadcast live on the BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer.
