CAMPION made an impression on national television at the weekend, as their FA Cup first qualifying round game against Blyth Spartans on BBC ended in a 1-1 draw at Scotchman Road.

Zak Khan put the Bradford side in front late on, before the visiting side, who play their football two division higher, hit back quickly to equalise.

The two teams will now head back to the North East for a replay this Wednesday.

Joao Gomes hit the post early on for Blyth, but Campion got stronger as the first half wore on, with Khan denied brilliant by Harrison Bond before Robbie Graham shot just wide.

A brilliant double save moments before the break by Bond kept the visitors level.

It was a quiet start to the second half, but the majority of the 572-strong crowd were sent into ecstasy with 20 minutes.

The Blyth defence failed to deal with a teasing low cross to the back post from Michael O’Brien, and Khan powerfully swept the loose ball into the net to give the underdogs the lead.

Stung by the concession, the away side hit back with a fine leveller, as a well-worked team move down the right led to a ball across goal being bundled home from close range by Mitchell Curry.

Neither side could find a late winner, meaning both will go again in a couple of days.

Campion joined Guiseley in the hat for the next round, Mark Bower’s Lions comfortably winning their first qualifying round tie 3-0 at home to Ashton United.

But Thackley and Silsden bowed out the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Dennboys were unlucky, as they were drawing 0-0 until their hosts Warrington Rylands netted 10 minutes from time.

Mark Everingham was sent off late on for dissent and Thackley’s 10-men fell apart in injury time, conceding three times to lose 4-0.

Silsden played their part in an entertaining tie at West Didsbury & Chorlton, and went in front through Casey Stewart.

But they eventually fell to a 4-2 defeat, with visiting striker Kayle Price also finding the net.

Albion Sports and Eccleshill United were already out of the FA Cup, so the two sides instead played out a Bradford derby in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Hosts Albion came out on top at Horsfall, winning 3-1 despite falling behind to a Talent Ndlovu goal.

An own goal drew the home side level, before goals from Sumaili Cisse and Tabish Hussain, both former Eccleshill players, won the game for Albion.

In the North West Counties Football League First Division North, Bradford side Route One Rovers lost 3-1 at home to Ashton Town, despite taking an early lead from Hunain Raoof.

Divisional rivals Steeton unluckily lost 1-0 to a last-gasp deflected effort at title hunting Atherton LR.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, Brighouse Town came from behind to beat Bishop Auckland 2-1, while Liversedge were beaten 3-1 by Heaton Stannington.

Finally, Farsley Celtic conceded at the death to lose 2-1 at Alfreton Town in National League North.
