IT was a superb weekend for the four Bradford District sides from the Northern Counties East League Premier Division still in the FA Cup, as three made it through and one forced a replay.
Thackley kicked off proceedings on Friday night with a West Yorkshire derby at Golcar United and came away with a 1-0 victory from their preliminary round tie.
Golcar started brightly, hitting the crossbar, and they ended the game strongly, drilling a brilliant last-gasp chance to equalise wide, but the Dennyboys more than matched them otherwise.
And the visitors won the game just after the hour mark, as Ben Grech-Brooksbank superbly volleyed the ball into the net from Lewis Sugden’s free kick.
Campion were the last to go, as they hosted and beat AFC Liverpool 1-0 yesterday.
The Bradford side started brightly, but the visitors ended the first half as the stronger side.
Yet Campion caught Liverpool cold second after kicking off for the second half, Nicky Boshell stroking them in front.
The hosts almost scored a second immediately afterwards but the away side regained their composure and pushed hard for an equaliser late on.
They struck the post with 12 minutes to go and forced a couple of good saves out of Campion stopper Jordan Moorhouse, but they failed to score and bowed out of the cup.
Saturday saw Eccleshill United and Silsden in FA Cup action, with the former battling hard to claim an excellent 0-0 draw at Mossley, who play in the division above them.
Like Campion, Silsden were at home, and like them, the Cobbydalers won and kept a clean sheet.
They beat visiting Atherton Collieries 2-0 thanks to two goals in four minutes early in the second half courtesy of Kayle Price and Casey Stewart.
It means they have made the first qualifying round for the first time in 20 years.
Albion Sports are the odd one out from the NCEL Premier Division, having bowed out of the FA Cup earlier this month.
And last year’s play-off finalists are struggling in the league too, a 2-1 defeat at Frickley Athletic leaving them on just two points from their opening four games.
Ryan Conlon scored a late equaliser for Albion, but they were beaten after conceding at the death.
It was a cruel blow for Albion, who had had Nathan Cartman sent off for two yellow cards in the first 15 minutes.
They finished the game with nine men after Tom Ponter was also sent off at the death.
Over in the North West Counties Football League First Division North, Route One Rovers remain in the bottom three after a frustrating 2-2 draw at basement boys Skelmersdale United, with all four goals coming in the first half.
The Bradford side fell 1-0 down early on, hit back to lead through Kamran Khan and an Anees Younis penalty, only for Skelmersdale to draw level five minutes before the break.
Steeton moved out of the bottom three though, as Josh Coe scored a last gasp winner at home against fellow slow starters Garstang.
Brighouse Town drew 0-0 with Ossett United in the Northern Premier League East Division, while rivals Liversedge had a free weekend.
Jordan Thewlis gave Guiseley the lead at Macclesfield in the NPL Premier Division, but the hosts went on to win 3-1.
Finally, Farsley Celtic fell to a 2-1 defeat at Buxton in National League North, despite dominating the second half and scoring a late equaliser through Ben Atkinson.
