ECCLESHILL United will be travelling to Vauxhall Motors in the FA Cup extra preliminary round next month, just over 20 years on from their hosts’ moment in the sun.
Unibond League side Motors memorably caused one of the great FA Cup shocks back in 2002 by knocking out third-tier Queens Park Rangers.
They had fought past Bedlington Terriers, Gainsborough Trinity and Hucknall Town in the qualifying rounds to earn a marquee home game against QPR, who had only been relegated from the First Division 18 months previously.
And while Vauxhall thought they would be left to rue missing good chances in a 0-0 draw, the reply at Loftus Road finished 1-1, before the non-league side held their nerve to win 4-3 on penalties.
That put them just one victory away from a potential tie against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United or Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, but sadly their dream run was ended in the second round as they lost 2-0 at Macclesfield Town.
There are couple of other ties that stand out, with Silsden travelling to Liversedge and Brighouse Town on the road at Barnoldswick Town.
Bradford trio Thackley, Albion Sports and Campion are all at home.
The former face Frickley Athletic, the latter go up against Parkgate, while Albion play Trafford.
All of those ties will take place on the first weekend of August.
Bradford (Park Avenue) enter the tournament at the preliminary round stage, which is being held a fortnight later.
They will be at home to the winner of the extra preliminary round tie between Stocksbridge Park Steels and Prestwich Heys.
