WEST Riding County Cup holders, Campion began their title defence with a strong 1-0 away win at Brighouse Town on Tuesday evening.
A solitary first-half strike from Aidan Kirby was enough for the visitors to book their spot in round three of the competition, as the Bradford side's fine start to the season continued.
After a cagey opening period to the game, the visitors soon pounced and Kirby was on hand to lash a fierce strike beyond the reach of Harry Garman in the Brighouse goal after 20 minutes.
There wasn't a great deal between the two sides, but it would be Campion who had the next best opportunity before the break, as they pounced on a Brighouse mistake, but their effort came back off the post only a minute before the interval.
The away side had done enough to progress into the next round thanks to Kirby’s strike, with the only real sour note being that of an injury to Brighouse Town man, Jamie Allsop in second half injury time.
