ALBION Sports did their relegation worries a world of good on Saturday, and helped promotion-chasing neighbours Silsden in the process, after an excellent 1-1 draw at Emley.

The hosts had only lost twice in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division all season, once on the opening day, but they were pushed all the way by their Bradford visitors at the weekend.

Former Thackley man Eisa Faulding gave Albion a shock lead after 30 minutes when he netted from close range in a first half of few chances.

Emley equalised early in the second half, as ex-Campion striker Joe Jagger, the division's top scorer, thumped a penalty beyond Albion stopper George McMahon and in off the crossbar.

But the home side could not find a winner, therefore missing the chance to move up to second, the sole promotion play-off spot in the division.

Silsden are just four points off second, with a game in hand on the team currently occupying that spot, Winterton Rangers.

The Cobbydalers were due to host Winterton in a mouthwatering clash on Saturday, but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Thackley had the chance to ease any lingering relegation fears at home to lowly Goole AFC on Saturday, but somehow contrived to lose 2-1 despite having nearly all of the chances on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors somehow reached the break with the game goalless, before taking the lead with their first attack when Chris Spinks fired a superb strike into the top corner.

After Joe Mitchell hit the post and player/interim manager Tom Greaves had a shot cleared off the line, Thackley finally scored on 65 minutes.

Fantastic work from Declan Parker saw him play a one-two with Aidan Chippendale before crossing for Greaves to net from close range.

But Goole retook the lead almost immediately, as Oliver Russon beat Thackley keeper Callum Bradbury to a ball over the top and lobbed it over him to score.

Thackley pushed hard for an equaliser, Parker coming closest when he hit the crossbar, but it was Goole who claimed the points.

Eccleshill United moved up a place to 13th after a 1-1 draw at Handsworth.

The Eagles took the lead through Joao Silva 10 minutes into the second half, but they were pegged back by Joe Parkin's late equaliser.

NCEL Division One leaders Campion had their home game with title rivals Harrogate Railway Athletic called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

But it was still a good weekend for the Red and Blacks, with second-placed Rossington Main slumping to a 3-1 home defeat against struggling Parkgate.

That result means Campion remain 13 points clear at the summit.

In the North West Counties Football League First Division North, Steeton lost 3-1 at home to FC St Helens after Joe Barker netted a fine hat-trick.

Andy Briggs scored a second-half consolation, while Luke Baldwin had a late goal ruled out for offside, as the defeat left Steeton seven points off the play-off places.

Brighouse Town's play-off push in the Northern Premier League East Division suffered a blow as they lost a thrilling game 3-2 at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Myron Gibbons put Brig in front early on, before Tomas Poole and an Ify Ofoegbu penalty turned things around before the break.

Corey Gregory equalised for the hosts with 10 minutes to go, but Stocksbridge stole the points with a last-gasp Kurtis Turner winner.

Liversedge remain marooned in the NPL Premier Division drop zone, after their home game with Bamber Bridge was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

But Guiseley eased their own relegation fears after a 2-1 home win over fellow strugglers Nantwich Town.

James Caton put the visitors in front early on at Nethermoor, but Andy Kellett and Lewis Whitham scored either side of half-time to ensure all three points for the Lions.

Farsley Celtic are still four points from safety in National League North, after they lost 1-0 at mid-table Alfreton Town, Dwayne Wiley netting a late winner for the hosts.
