WITHOUT a win in nine games, Brighouse Town might have been forgiven for approaching their West Yorkshire derby at home to Pontefract Collieries on Monday night with trepidation.
Pontefract are up in the play-off places while Brig, after a bright start, have slid dangerously close to the drop zone.
But form went out of the window the other day, as the hosts recorded a sensational 6-0 victory.
Brighouse roared out of the blocks, and found themselves 2-0 up inside five minutes thanks to goals from Corey Gregory and Josh Dacre.
Gregory was forced off before the break, but that blow did not hurt Brighouse too much as a Javelle Clarke goal made the score 3-0 at half-time.
Laurence Sorhaindo bundled home a fourth 10 minutes after the break, before Jack Boyle netted on his birthday with 10 minutes to go.
Jack Normanton completed the scoring moments later, as Brig soared up to 13th in the 20-team table with victory.
Two of our sides went head to head in the West Riding County Cup last night, and Steeton almost shocked holders Liversedge at Marley, but eventually lost to the visitors on penalties.
Both sides had their chances in an open first half, with a superb Ben Atkinson free-kick giving Sedge the lead at half-time.
It looked bleak for Steeton when defender Nathan Tayo had to go in goal after stopper James Catlow limped off injured, but moments later, Andy Briggs equalised with a fierce effort.
Josh Barrett headed Sedge back in front with 20 minutes to go, but with Tayo otherwise producing heroics between the sticks, Steeton forced spot-kicks thanks to a late Arale Mohamed strike, who scored with the rebound from Toby Jeffrey's missed penalty.
Sadly, the Chevrons fell apart in the shootout, missing all of their efforts to lose it 3-0, with Sedge reaching the third round instead.
In the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, Thackley's home game with with Penistone Church was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, while out-of-form Eccleshill United drew 1-1 at Frickley Athletic.
Lloyd Smith, on loan from Bradford (Park Avenue) put Frickley in front, but Jack Crook netted the Eagles' equaliser with 20 minutes to go.
