ECCLESHILL United have hit the buffers in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division of late, but they will hope their dramatic FA Vase second round win on Saturday can inspire a return to form.
The Eagles have not won in the league since October 1, slipping down to 13th in the table as a result.
But they triumphed in the Vase at the weekend, winning 4-3 on penalties at Wythenshawe Town after a 2-2 draw.
It looked like being a bleak afternoon for the visitors after the prolific Devonte Newman-Morton was sent off after half-an-hour.
Yet it was the Eagles who took the lead on 39 minutes, as Fernando Moke scored from the penalty spot.
On the stroke of half-time, Eccleshill doubled their advantage through Luke Sidaway, and looked to have one foot in the third round.
But it is never easy playing with 10 men, and Wythenshawe's Matthew Bryan halved the deficit midway through the second half, before the hosts levelled on 73 minutes courtesy of Steven Hewitt.
The game went straight to a penalty shootout, and it was the Eagles who triumphed, the winning spot-kick coming from nerveless teenager Joao Silva.
That win has put them into the third round of the competition for the first time in 22 years, and their reward is an away tie against Longridge Town on Saturday, December 3.
Eccleshill's great Bradford rivals Thackley had a far less successful afternoon in the Vase, going out of the competition after losing 3-0 at home to Abbey Hey.
After an exciting, even start, Hey took the lead from the spot following a Steven Crawford foul, Jake Dunford converting from 12 yards.
Just before half-time, the Dennyboys had Aiden Chippendale's equaliser ruled out for offside, before Amir Berchil looked to be cleaned out by the visiting goalkeeper.
The referee gave a goal kick instead of the red card the home fans were looking forward, and their frustrations were compounded two minutes later, when Darrhyl Mason doubled Hey's lead.
Thackley had their chances after the break, but failed to convert any of them, and Rafael Alvarez benefitted from a tight offside call in his favour, rounding Thackley keeper Luke Wilson to put Abbey Hey 3-0 up after 65 minutes.
That was the end of the scoring, with Thackley now turning their attention back to the league, as they currently sit down in 14th.
Albion Sports are just above Eccleshill and Thackley in the NCEL Premier Division, and they gave high-flying Winterton Rangers a good game at The Citadel on Saturday.
But it was visiting Winterton who went away with the three points, Josh Walker scoring the only goal of the game just before half-time.
Silsden are in scintillating form in that division, and they moved up to fourth after dismantling Maltby Main 5-1.
Joe Crosby and Ellis Hudson both scored twice for the Cobbydalers, with Lamin Janneh grabbing a fifth late on.
Elliott Simpson netted a consolation for visiting Maltby.
Campion have been flying in Division One of the NCEL, and they moved 11 points clear at the summit on Saturday after a hard-fought 2-1 win at mid-table Swallownest.
Connor Williamson's early own goal gave the visitors the lead, before Aidan Day made it 2-0 just after the break.
Williamson scored at the right end on 66 minutes to halve the deficit, but the hosts could not find an equaliser, despite their best efforts.
In the North West Counties Football League First Division North, Steeton came from behind to record a fine 3-1 win at Ashton Town, their goals coming from Andy Briggs, Foley Nkem and Arale Mohamed.
Brighouse Town lost 2-1 at home to Cleethorpes Town in the Northern Premier League East Division, Javelle Clarke netting their goal, while lowly Liversedge were crushed 5-0 at Marine in the NPL Premier Division.
Guiseley are struggling in the same division as Sedge, and they slid to a 4-2 defeat at Radcliffe, despite goals from Adam Haw and Joe Ackroyd.
Farsley Celtic remain three points from safety in National League North, after they were hammered 4-0 at high-flying Southport.
