BRADFORD (Park Avenue) were losing 2–1 to York Railway at the interval in the Southern Division, with Kirsty Russell on target.
There were some amazing shots, but an afternoon of missed chances saw an injury-ravaged Avenue go down 9–1.
Brighouse Town Women beat Middlesbrough 4–1 in their FA Northern Premier Division game, helped by a hat-trick from substitute Amy Woodruff.
Leeds United’s Abbie Brown scored a late winner against Liverpool Feds to top Division One North.
There was disappointment for local teams in the North East Regional League.
Farsley Celtic Women played an end-to-end game at Harrogate Town. From 3–1 down, Jess Heald scored an absolute rocket to bring it back to 3–2. Celts gave it everything to get the equaliser but fell to an opening day Premier Division defeat.
Farsley Junior First put up a good challenge, but lost 4–3 to recently-promoted Wakefield Trinity u23.
This weekend, Farsley are at Silsden for their FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie. Silsden will have to improve, after losing their last two friendlies.
The West Riding County League will also re-commence this Sunday. The top three divisions are now expanded, with Brighouse Sports retaining their Premier Division status as they host Wetherby Athletic.
In other local games, Ilkley Town play Morley and Thackley Reserves host West End Terriers.
In a revised Third Division, Athletico play Wortley at Bradford Academy, Brighouse Town Devs host Ryburn at Calderdale College, and Farsley Celtic Reserves host Kinsley at Woodhall.
Several teams were involved in friendlies last Sunday.
Brighouse Sports entertained Harrogate Railway, who had a good first half hour to go 2–0 ahead but Sports won 3–2, thanks to a Sarah Hemingway winner.
Burley Trojans won 6–0 at a spirited Garforth Rangers, with a Becky Clark hat-trick, one from Hannah Spivey, and two from Charlotte Keane on her début.
Phœnix kept battling on, away to Republica Internationale, but lost 7–3.
Skipton Town put in a solid performance to beat Wetherby 4–3, with braces for Beth Bancroft and Emily Throup.
Thackley First played Bradford City u23s in a close, energetic game mid-week. Kirsty Setchel’s 25-yard strike saw the Dennygirls take the lead, but the Bantams got an equaliser, as the game ended 1–1.
