Apperley Bridge denied Leeds Sikh a league and cup double as they won a tense Pool Paper Mills Cup final by eight runs.

The match had twice been postponed due to poor weather but this time Bridge sealed an enthralling contest against the odds at Salts Cricket Club, the home of Shipley Providence.

Sikh had been firm favourites, having recently thrashed their opponents by ten wickets on the way to claiming the league title.

The early signs appeared to suggest a repeat dose as Bridge struggled to escape the stranglehold of Sarvana Kandasamy (2-8) and Hari Seehra (2-14) before collapsing from 102-5 to 109 all out, Sajid Khan (28) offering the only real resistance.

But Sikh also struggled in reply and were reduced to 39-6 as Usman Mahmood (3-25) led the way for the Bradford side.

Seehra then joined Pardasarahdi Koduru and they appeared on course to complete the recovery before Seehra (18) was bowled by Zahid Ullah Jahn with the total on 80.

Another wicket fell on the same score but Koduru dug in and looked set to guide his side home until, with the score 101, he was bowled for 44 by Ashan Shakir.

Zafar Jadoon Khan (3-25) then trapped Sajid Syed leg before without further addition to leave Bridge celebrating victory.
