It has been a mixed opening afternoon for Yorkshire against Gloucestershire at Scarborough.
The visitors went into lunch at 70-4, but were quickly reduced to 107-7 as Azeem Rafiq struck twice and Moin Ashraf once.
However, 20 year-old number nine Jack Taylor set about an entertaining 49 off 43 balls in partnership with wicketkeeper Jon Batty to fashion a recovery which saw their side reach tea at 174-8 from 65 overs The pair shared 56 for the eighth wicket inside 14 overs, of which Taylor scored all but seven as he hit seven fours and one six over long-on off Rafiq.
Iain Cockbain was the first to go after lunch when he clipped Rafiq into the hands of Phil Jaques at short-leg before Will Gidman was smartly taken by Adam Lyth at second slip off Ashraf for 47, leaving the score at 102-6.
And when James Fuller was trapped lbw sweeping Rafiq, the visitors were rocking again having earlier been 9-4.
But that was when Taylor and Batty, who only added two in the partnership, united.
Thankfully for Yorkshire the stand was broken in the closing stages of the session when Taylor, dropped on five by Jaques at square-leg off Ashraf, offered a sharp return catch to Rafiq to leave the score at 163-8.
Batty and Anthony Ireland will resume after tea unbeaten on 24 and five respectively
