Yorkshire will be able to field Tim Bresnan at Cardiff today after all.

The England all-rounder was made available to them following a rain-affected one-day international at the SWALEC Stadium against South Africa that produced only 5.3 overs.

Bresnan did not even get onto the field as England batted and reached 37-0.

It is a satisfactory end to a disappointing week for the Yorkshire camp, who were angry at the confusion surrounding the 27-year-old’s availability.

Having initially told the county Bresnan would be available, the ECB made Bresnan unavailable via a press release on Wednesday without telling Yorkshire.

It was later clarified that a final decision would be made after the ODI.

And that decision came tonight, although there is further scope for the decision to be reassessed by England team director Andy Flower should more rain push finals day into a reserve day on Sundayw.

Jason Gillespie and Andrew Gale now have a sele ction headache on their hands.

It seems likely that they will play both frontline spinners in Azeem Rafiq and Adil Rashid, with Rich Pyrah being the unlucky man to make way for the return of his good mate.

“Spin looks like it could play a massive part,” confirmed Gale, who believes Yorkshire’s tag as outsiders is justified.

“We’ve got to go there as underdogs because of our track record – we’ve never been there before.

“There is no pressure on us at all. Somerset will be going into it thinking ‘oh we’ve failed a couple of times, we need to go win’, Sussex are everybody’s favourites and Hampshire have won it before. We can just go down there and enjoy it and see what we can do.”

David Miller linked up with his county team-mates in Bristol today ahead of their final training session following his international commitments in Ireland.
