A superb hundred from Kent captain Rob Key has underpinned the hosts’ below-par score at 226-5 at the halfway stage of tonight’s Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Yorkshire at Canterbury.
Key hit six fours and two sixes in a 109-ball 101 on a slow pitch but the Tykes finished the innings off well with three wickets in the last six overs to restrict the Spitfires after Andrew Gale had won the toss.
Key shared 70 inside 14 overs with Sam Northeast for the second wicket and 71 inside 12 for the third with Darren Stevens, who made 43 before falling to a stunning one-handed reflex catch off his own bowling by Rich Pyrah.
Moin Ashraf claimed two wickets in the 35th over - those of Rob Key caught at square-leg as the batsman misplaced a full toss and Alex Blake bowled with a trademark yorker.
Ashraf’s 2-36 from eight overs were the pick of the Yorkshire figures.
