Nick and Chris Smith could become the Ben Rhydding Brownlees if they manage to swing the much- delayed Aire-Wharfe League Waddilove Cup final against Collingham the way of their team when play resumes on Sunday.

The match, already rained off once, was interrupted several times by showers when the second attempt finally got going at Ilkley yesterday.

There were plenty of twists and turns before Ben Rhydding were left 76 runs short of victory with just 15 overs and five wickets left when play was halted.

Collingham chose to bat but it was Ben Rhydding who struck first, Charlie Swallow snapping up the prolific John Swain at slip without a run being scored.

Two more quick wickets saw Collingham struggling at 19-3 but a middle-order revival inspired by Toby Jacklin (66) helped them recover, although Jason Wright never let them off the hook, his 5-22 helping restrict the total to 185.

Ben Rhydding didn’t get the start they were hoping for, Lewis Bolton being caught with only one run on the board.

Robbie Miller and Charlie Swallow took them to 50 but then they both quickly departed and, after yet another break for rain, Collingham snapped up Robbie Oldham and Jason Wright.

That brought together the Smiths, who put on 22 before the umpires called a halt and left the brothers a week to contemplate a high-stakes task that could see them acclaimed as heroes.
