Yorkshire made an encouraging start to their LV= County Championship clash with Division Two leaders Derbyshire at Headingley.
By lunch on day one the hosts had reached 123-2 in their first innings, with Adam Lyth unbeaten on 56 and Gary Ballance 11.
The two wickets to fall were captain Andrew Gale for 47 and opener Phil Jaques for just three.
This is only the second time that Lyth has made 50 in the Championship this season. On the last occasion he went on to reach an unbeaten 248 against Leicestershire.
