Yorkshire have posted a competitive 262-8 in the first half of their Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road this evening.

Boosted by 87 off 83 balls from opener Phil Jaques, a former Northants player, the White Rose were also helped along by 44 from David Miller and a brisk 25 from Adil Rashid after losing the toss.

Having reached 177-2 after 30 overs, Yorkshire could have posted 20 or 30 runs more than they have but they will still feel as though they are on top in the contest as they search for only their third win in Group C.

Jaques shared 57 for the second wicket with Adam Lyth and 87 for the third with Miller before pulling down deep square-leg’s throat off the bowling of Luke Evans, leaving the score at 186-3 in the 31st.

Miller hit the only six of the innings when he cleared the stand at the Pavilion End off Evans’ bowling with a massive blow over long-off.

Lee Daggett was the pick of the Northants attack with 4-54 from his eight overs, getting rid of Miller, Gary Ballance, Rashid and Azeem Rafiq.
