It won’t only be Otley supporters rooting for them to do well when they host Beckwithshaw at Cross Green in the Aire-Wharfe League on Saturday.
Several other sides will be hoping Matt O’Grady’s side can at least dent the Division One leaders’ progress.
It’s a big ask against a team that have won their last four completed matches and were on course to beat Kirkstall before the rain intervened last week. Otley, in contrast, needed the rain to save them from defeat against Bilton and will be hoping for a return to the form that saw them beat Steeton and Kirkstall prior to that.
With six games to go, Beckwithshaw have opened up a five point lead over Collingham, with Steeton a point back. Burley are another point behind, three ahead of Otley, who are one in front of Thackley .
The chasing pack can afford no slip-ups but some will inevitably fall behind when they face rivals in ’12 pointers’.
One of those is the pick of Saturday’s games. Thackley take on Burley who have moved to fourth after taking 19 of the last 24 points.
Thackley, too, are in good form, winning their last two and dominating Follifoot last week before the game was abandoned. They will also recall they beat Burley comfortably earlier in the season, inspired by Majid Khan’s knock of 81.
Collingham look certain of six points against struggling Adel, so long-time leaders Steeton, who have gone off the boil and taken only one point from their last three games, need to get back on track against Bilton, who recently upset Collingham.
With Jason Wright and Charlie Swallow in hot form, second from bottom Ben Rhydding will try to move a little closer to safety against Follifoot while hoping in-form Guiseley can do them a favour against Kirkstall, the side hovering just above the relegation spots.
Bolton Villas will need their ‘A’ game to take anything off Division Two leaders Pool , but anything they can do will be gratefully accepted by the chasing pack.
Harden are only two points off the lead and should be too strong for North Leeds as long as they can restrict Tom Boxell, who has scored 208 in his last three innings and has already hit 64 against Harden earlier in the season.
Rawdon ’s surprise defeat by Knaresborough saw them drop to third and they face a difficult task against Ilkley who beat them earlier in the campaign when Jeremy Batty took seven wickets.
Green Lane are still in the promotion race and will expect to take six points at Olicanian, who have only picked up two points from play all season.
Calverley will be looking to do the double over Bardsey in their effort to climb out of the relegation spots.
Addingham have the unenviable job of trying to halt the progress of Colton who head Division Three by 12 points.
Behind them there is a tense struggle for the second promotion spot.
Menston currently hold that and the table suggests they should be too strong for Skipton but they will remember their opponents inflicted Colton’s only defeat three weeks ago.
Tong Park Esholt are two points behind Menston and should have no problems against Alwoodley while fourth placed Silsden will again be looking to the magic of Majid Inayat when they take on New Rover.
Horsforth need a big change of fortune if they are to take anything from Illingworth while Hall Park travel to Woodhouse, two sides who have been plagued by inconsistency this season.
