Wrenthorpe continue to be a bogy side for JCT600 Bradford League champions Woodlands.

Having already beaten the Oakenshaw club convincingly in a pre-season match for the Worthington Trophy at Wren-thorpe, the Wakefield club repeated the dose in the second round of the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup.

Sam Frankland and Simon Mason fell cheaply after the Central Yorkshire League leaders Wrenthorpe put Woodlands in but opener Scott Richardson and Stephen Piercey dug in to add 43 for the third wicket before former Yorkshire player Richardson fell for 42 with the score on 58.

Piercey (15) went at 81 and wickets then fell at regular intervals, No 5 Chris Brice being left high and dry on 34 not out as the innings folded in the 41st over with the total on just 110.

David Paynter (5-32) and Luke Patel (3-26) did the damage late on after tight spells from former Pudsey Congs pace bowler Tom Glover (1-19) and Greig Batty (1-6). Wrenthorpe also had their alarms, falling to 47-4 as Scott Richardson junior (3-17) had some success.

But Woodlands couldn’t add to their wicket tally as Patel (19no) and Batty (47no) cashed in, the latter hitting Woodlands captain Pieter Swanepoel for three sixes as Wrenthorpe won by six wickets in exactly 31 overs.

The weather was cloudy and the pitch damp at Albert Terrace but not everyone was so lucky, Hanging Heaton going through on a faster scoring rate when chasing Huddersfield League side Shelley’s 211-8.

Ahsan Butt was economy itself, taking 2-9 off ten overs, but there was little to shout about elsewhere.

The Batley club had reached 136-4, Joe Fraser hitting 50, when rain stopped play and the calculators came out.

But Hanging Heaton, thanks to ace scorer John Virr, knew that they were ahead of the game and through to the quarter-finals.

Hanging Heaton are still involved in three cups – the Heavy Woollen, the Bradford League’s Priestley Cup and the Kingfisher Cup.

The latter is a national event and Hanging Heaton have been drawn at Notts Premier League side Cuckney on Sunday, June 24.

Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup quarter-final draw: Hanging Heaton v Golcar, Delph & Dobcross v Wrenthorpe, Spen Victoria v Shepley, Methley v Townville (ties to be played on or before Sunday, July 1). Semi-finals: Hanging Heaton or Golcar v Delph & Dobcross or Wrenthorpe, Spen Victoria or Shepley v Methley or Townville (ties to be played on July 8).
