Birstall’s former Indian A batting star Connor Williams completed a third successive Solly Sports Central Yorkshire league century for his side in their game at home to neighbours Batley.

But, having batted a massive 144.3 overs in three games without being dismissed, accumulating 391 runs in the process, he was bowled by Huzaifa Patel for 122.

A total of 216-4 looked comfortable enough for Birstall but Batley were in no mood to lie down and with former Bradford League player Naweed Ghany (81) top-scoring, they eased home by four wickets with 4.2 overs to spare.

Defeat was a blow to Birstall’s hopes of getting among the leaders, where Wrenthorpe, Townville and Methley hold the top three positions, but they should get something from their trip to Carlton in their next game.

An eight-wicket win at Wakefield Thornes A put Buttershaw St Paul’s back on top of the First Division table and put them in good heart ahead of their visit from Liversedge this week.

Skipper Paul Carroll hit an unbeaten 114 off 75 balls as Buttershaw comfortably chased down the home side’s 151 all out.

Brad Greenwood (5-26) and Ian Carradice (3-38) did the damage with the ball for the visitors.

In contrast, Liversedge seem to have lost their way after a bright start and crashed to 70 all out chasing a modest 121-9 at home to Hopton Mills.

It promises to be a tough weekend for Liversedge as they take on Premier Division side Townville on Sunday in the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup, while Wrenthorpe go to JCT600 Bradford League leaders Woodlands, and among the other ties Hanging Heaton, already through to the regional finals of the National Cup, go to Shelley, while Spen Victoria entertain Barnsley tonight in a Twenty20 match.
