The Towergate Halifax League, which includes 13 clubs from the Bradford area, is one of only three leagues in Yorkshire to take part in a Yorkshire Cricket Board affiliation pilot.

Andrew Watson, of the YCB, addressed the league’s December meeting at Pellon Social Club and said: “It is to find out what core services clubs want from us.

“Only three counties are taking part in this nationwide. Each club has been given a tick-box questionnaire to take away and fill in.

“The key thing is how much would each club want to pay for the overall package of services that the YCB offers.”

The other two leagues taking part in Yorkshire are the South Yorkshire League and the York & District Senior League.

Watson said: “All three are efficient leagues and the feeling is that we will cover every type of cricket club there is with these three leagues – big clubs, single-team clubs, Focus clubs, miners’ welfare clubs etc. Now we need your feedback.

“Answers will remain anonymous and there is also scope to leave comments – for example, about any additions that you feel there should be.

“All we want to do is collect the data and we are hoping to get 120 responses in all from within Yorkshire.”

Watson added: “Yorkshire has 900 cricket clubs playing in 118 leagues and we make up 12 per cent of the clubs in the country. The hope is that we can act on these answers by 2013.

“A lot of these leagues are over 100 years old, while the Yorkshire Cricket Board was only formed in 1997.”

The questionnaires should be returned to the YCB by January 20.
