New first-team coach Jason Gillespie has vowed that Yorkshire will go on the attack in a bid to return to the top tier of the LV= County Championship at the first attempt in 2012.

The former Australian Test bowler, 36, leads a quartet of new faces to arrive at Headingley, with Paul Farbrace and Richard Damms making up a four-man coaching team alongside Ian Dews, who will all work under director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon.

White Rose chairman Colin Graves also announced the overseas signing of Aussie opener Phil Jaques yesterday on a two-year deal.

As expected, Farbrace has been appointed as the second-team coach, Dews as the director of cricket development and Damms as the development manager.

Farbrace and Damms will take up their respective posts on December 1 but Gillespie will only arrive in late February or early March after completing his commitments with Zimbabwe franchise Mid West Rhinos.

A Yorkshire player in 2006 and 2007, ‘Dizzy’ said: “I’m going to be pushing for result cricket as much as possible. I’m willing to risk a loss in order to win a cricket match. I believe this squad is capable of winning cricket matches.

“Yorkshire certainly underachieved last year, and I’m sure everyone is disappointed, but what that does is create a great opportunity for this group of players to really show how good they are.”

Gillespie will look after the day-to-day running of the first team, including helping captain Andrew Gale pick the team.

There were approximately 100 applicants for the four advertised posts.

Meanwhile, Gale and Joe Root have signed new contracts until the end of the 2014 season. Moin Ashraf has committed his future until the end of 2013.
