Former Craven League player Arran Brindle has made a superb start to England’s one-day women’s international series in South Africa.
The Barrowford prodigy scored a maiden international century in the first match, which England won by 62 runs.
Brindle struck 107 not out off just 96 deliveries, sharing a record unbroken stand of 218 with Lydia Greenway (125no).
Together they whacked 27 fours, Brindle hitting 15 of them, and she said: “It was really nice to get out in the middle and get some runs under my belt.
“It’s a great feeling scoring a hundred at any time but to do it in an international is fantastic.
“We want to hit our straps every time we get out there.”
England clinched the series by winning the second match by 96 runs, Brindle being England’s most successful bowler with 2-18.
The third and final one-dayer is tomorrow, while the first of three Twenty20 matches is on Thursday. All the matches are being played at Potchefstroom.
