Yorkshire have been forced to battle hard with the bat on the opening morning against Lancashire at Liverpool.
The White Rose county were forced to select retired wicketkeeper Simon Guy for his first Championship appearance since 2007 following Gerard Brophy’s failed fitness test.
And, after being invited to bat first by Red Rose captain Glen Chapple, the visitors have reached 57-2 after 28 overs.
Adam Lyth was trapped lbw for four by Chapple in the fourth over before Joe Root fell the same way off the bowling of Farveez Maharoof for the same score at the end of the 17th over.
But Sayers, who has reached 28 not out, and Andrew Gale (16 not out) have since advanced the score from 30-2.
Four overs of the day’s allotted 96 have been lost due to early morning rain. Play started 45 minutes late.
