In a re-match of last year's final, Mewies Solicitors Craven League Cowling Cup holders Ingrow fell at the first hurdle at home to Barrowford.

The red-rose side batted first and rattled up 246-3, Ajmal Choudry (118no) and R Harris (59no) putting together an undefeated 143 for the fourth wicket. After slumping to 23-4, the Hainworth side were behind the eight ball. T Hodgson hit 39 off 15 balls and under-13 player Ben Weatherall 22no off 30 balls towards the end of the innings, which closed on 131.

Another sparkling performance occurred at Bingley Congs, where Josh Nutting (103no) and Charlie Raistrick (52no) added an unbeaten 154 for the fourth wicket against Glusburn.

The latter followed this with 4-2 off three overs as the Park Field side slumped to 60 all out and defeat by 197 runs.

Haworth Road staged a Houdini-type escape to beat Chatburn by two wickets. The Ribble Valley side scored 170, with Ben Threlfall scoring 44 and Chris Waddington 43 as N Gata-Aura took 4-43.

The Baildon Bottom side were staring defeat in the face at 113-8 but Antony Haigh and Will Forrest both scored 27no to take their side to the second round.

Imran Mehrban (5-18), Steve Kernan (45no) and Dale Pinkerton (33no) were the stars of Riddlesden’s nine- wicket victory over Bradford & Bingley III at Carleton.

Wilsden smashed 255-8 at home to Thornton, with John Greenwood making a fine 111 and Chris Mitchell 39 as Will Procter took 4-59.

The Booth Bridge Laners replied with 164 with M Foster scoring 44 and Mark Proctor 39 as Mitchell and B Reynard took three wickets each.

Another centurion was Embsay’s Jonathan Coward, who scored 122no, which included seven sixes and 11 fours. He put on 152 with Brian Hodgson, whose 86 included three sixes and 11 fours.

Then came an unbeaten 131 with Zafar Iqbal, who included six sixes and five fours in 70no, which added up to 303-3 in 40 overs.

The Royd Hill side didn’t roll over and replied with a very creditable 174-8, which revolved around a belligerent knock of 89 from Neil Hardaker (four sixes, nine fours) who, with James Marshall (38), put on 116 for the second wicket. Neville Allen took 3-11 and Joe Holt 3-32.

Denholme’s Matthew Wear took 5-21 as Bradley crumpled to 121, which included 44 by Matt Buckmaster. The visitors cruised home by five wickets.

Long Lee were in sparkling form at Skipton CI, winning by 64 runs. The Golden View side made 197-4, with John Day scoring 66 and Phil Atkinson 35.

Only Sam Smith, with 51, offered much resistance as CI replied with 133. For the record, the venerable Chris Windle took 2-39 off 11 overs, and then scored ten opening the innings.

Foulridge were too strong for Cononley, winning by eight wickets, S Wood (4-4), A White (3-25), Jerry Springer (3-28) and Michael Gildea (36no) doing the business for the winners.

Crossflatts, winners in 2009, chased down Pendle Forest II’s 198-7 to win by three wickets in the 43rd over. M I Khan made 56, T Haythornthwaite 47 and M Furqan 46no for the Fence side.

Mark Jones was the hero for the winners as he stroked a superb 138no to see them progress to the next round.

Pendle Forest III and Oakworth are trying again next Sunday after rain washed out the chances of any play.

Cowling enjoyed a walkover when Eldwick & Gilstead couldn’t raise a team. Haworth WE and Gargrave were eliminated after their first teams withdrew from the Wynn Cup.
