Bradford & Bingley increased their lead at the top of the JCT600 Bradford League Division One table to 12 points after a three-wicket win at Manningham Mills.

Paceman James Davies produced the division’s best bowling performance by taking 6-36 as Mills were dismissed for 128.

Farakh Hussain top-scored with 50 and Iqbal Khan made 35 not out but they received little support.

Sri Lankan opener Naweed Ghany gave Bingley a flying start, hitting 11 fours before he was run out for 49 out of 72-3. Mills battled hard as the visitors lost four more wickets before they recorded their fourth win in a row.

Farsley moved into second place, despite their defeat at East Bierley, while Hanging Heaton are in third place, a further three points adrift after going down by three wickets at Baildon.

Last season’s Division Two champions were bowled out for 97 as Richard Atkins (5-29) and Craig Hitchenor (3-36) exploited some helpful conditions. Only James Stansfield showed resistance, contributing more than half his team’s total with 53 not out.

Baildon struggled in reply before winning their second match of the campaign.

Undercliffe moved off the bottom after winning their first match of the season by beating Gomersal by 31 runs.

Yorkshire batsman Callum Geldart led the way with 78 as they posted a testing 250-7 and received good support from Matthew Bottomley (43), Nawaz Sardar (37) and Ashley Metcalfe (34) as off-spinner Adam Greenwood took five wickets.

Shabbir Rashid led Gomersal’s challenge with 97, supported by teenage opener Andrew Gorrod (55) and Greg Pickles (31), but they fell short on 219.

Woodlands, who lost their first two matches, won their third match in a row with a comfortable eight-wicket success at Pudsey St Lawrence. Pieter Swanepoel with 4-40 and slow left-armer Chris Brice (3-55) did the damage as St Lawrence were bowled out for 193, with only skipper James Smith (91) showing real resistance.

That total presented few problems for Woodlands. Scott Richardson struck 12 fours in his 55 during an opening stand of 84 with Sam Frankland (38) before Brice (50) and Simon Mason (38) sealed their victory with an unbroken third-wicket stand of 97 with 17.3 overs to spare.

Cleckheaton slipped to the bottom of the table after a 44-run home defeat against Pudsey Congs.

Their hopes must have been high at the interval after James Lee with 4-25 and Ian Wardlaw (3-47) had bowled out Congs for a modest 135.

However, new Scottish bowler Richie Lamb took 5-38 as Cleckheaton were bowled out for a mere 91.

Skipper Andrew Bairstow with 37 not out and Gareth Phillips (33) were Congs’ leading scorers.

Lightcliffe won the big match of the day in Division Two at home to Saltaire.

Chris Taylor made 122 not out as the hosts made 212-4 before Saltaire came close to reaching their target, falling short by eight runs as they were dismissed for 205.
