Yorkshire have set Kent 231 to win in the Clydesdale Bank 40.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat, it was Ajmal Shahzad who did most of the damage for the Tykes.
He finished on 59 not-out from only 34 balls at Headingley, with Gary Ballance also impressing to make 47 on his first start for the county this season.
Their efforts mean Yorkshire are favourites to win at the half-way stage – with Kent needing to achieve a run-rate of almost six an over to come out on top on a pitch which appears to suit the bowling side more.
