Anthony McGrath column
I had another injection in my problematic back on Thursday and I’m hoping we have finally got to the bottom of it.
I’m now back in training, although we won’t rush things. I suppose if I have a good week I could make it back for the one-day game against Kent on Sunday but I would have thought the Roses game at Liverpool next Wednesday is more likely.
This has has been by far the worst injury I’ve had in my career, pain-wise. You can’t even do normal things properly like sleep or walk up the stairs.
It was great to see Jonny Bairstow get the hundred he’s been craving against Notts last week – and to make it a double would have been extra special.
He’d had 17 fifties and not scored a hundred until last week and I know it’s been on his mind. To finally get three figures on the board will give him great confidence. He now knows he can get those hundreds.
We’ve got a few young players at the club capable of going all the way and Jonny is one of them. He’s certainly got all the talent he needs to go to that next level.
I’d just like to finish by giving a couple of quick mentions.
Firstly to Seve Ballesteros. I’m not a massive golf fan but anybody who’s interested in sport will have spared a thought for his family over the weekend. I was no different.
The other is to SMS, the five-a-side team I play a bit for over the winter months. It’s made up of old school friends and they’ve just won the league. Well done guys!
