After a comfortable ten-wicket league win over Upper Wharfedale the previous day, Steeton found it much harder to get past the same opponents in the preliminary round of the Waddilove Cup.
It all looked quite comfortable when Ross Suri (3-11) and Shane McNamara (3-33) bowled out the home side for 136.
McNamara (44) then gave the Steeton innings a solid start but as wickets started to tumble the target was looking elusive until Jonathan Best saw them over the line with an unbeaten 31.
Ben Rhydding struggled to 106-9 as veteran Mick Scott picked up 5-20, but Tong Park Esholt were dismissed for 75, with Nick Smith (3-21) taking his weekend’s figures to 9-52.
Set a target of 169-7 by North Leeds, Horsforth stumbled to 20-5 before No 7 Matthew Bates restored some pride with a feisty 46 but couldn’t stop his side going down by 71 runs.
In the final tie of the round Follifoot beat Bilton by 12 runs mainly thanks to Michael Halmshaw (92no) and David Wright (77no).
