There's no doubting which player has hogged the limelight in JCT600 Bradford League Division One this season – Farsley’s Lorenzo Ingram.
The Jamaican has scored 368 runs in his first three innings and has yet to be out as the Red Lane club have won all those matches to head the table.
On Saturday he will be looking to build on his runs tally as his side face a testing game at Woodlands, and one man who is not surprised by his success is his former captain David Syers.
The Bradford City soccer star recalls: “I can remember his first game in 2008. He arrived from Jamaica on the Friday evening and, despite not having much sleep, he went out the next day and made 150 at Spen Victoria.
“It was clear then that he was a quality player and he seems to have got better with every season. His strength is he knows his scoring areas and he can score quickly without seeming to take risks.”
Although these are early days, Farsley are being talked about as serious title contenders and parallels are being drawn with 2009 when Baildon took the crown.
But Farsley’s captain Ian Philliskirk – who led Baildon to their triumph – isn’t getting carried away.
He said: "We've got a great team spirit and had a good start. Winning is a nice habit but there is a long way to go and you have to respect the quality of the league."
He added: “Lorenzo has been in great form but I have been delighted too with the contributions of our new opening bowler Neil Laidlaw and young batsman Joe Greaves.”
Ingram, 28, is delighted with the way the season has gone so far.
He said: "The wickets have been drier than usual at this time of the year but it has still been hard work getting runs because the ball has tended to stay low.
"I have tried to be a more disciplined this year, playing the ball on the ground more. Obviously I am delighted to have scored so many runs, but my main focus is to win games for Farsley.
"We have a good team and Ian Philliskirk is a strong and positive captain. Winning is a good habit and this season it would be nice to win a trophy. We have to keep working hard, do the basics and execute our plans well.
"Farsley has got to the last two Priestley Cup finals and been beaten both times. We know what it takes to get there but now I would like Farsley to be winners."
Barney Gibson, fresh from becoming the youngest-ever English first-class cricketer, returns to the Pudsey Congs side as they host Manningham Mills.
Second-placed Pudsey St Lawrence visit Hanging Heaton bidding for their fourth straight win, while Bradford & Bingley will chase a third successive victory at home to Gomersal.
After two defeats, East Bierley will be hoping for better luck when they entertain Baildon, while Undercliffe and Cleckheaton – two teams without a win so far – meet at Intake Road.
