The four debutant teams endured mixed fortunes in the first round of Evening League fixtures.
Umair Khan (45no) made light work as Apperley Bridge passed Mayfield’s total of 77-8 in less than six overs.
Manesh Patel (50no) and Azad Abbas (55no) took advantage of some dropped catches as Indian Panthers made 158-6 at Queensbury.
Teenager Josh Tillotson enjoyed his Evening League debut for the home side, taking 4-26, including an all-bowled hat-trick.
Damien Weston (24) and Joe Hustler (36) then made a good start. This was followed by a quick-fire 38 from skipper Scott Osbourne but the home side’s brave challenge fell 11 runs short of victory.
Azad must have been confident of starting their campaign with a win as they posted 138-8 at HSA, however, with the home team at 62-3, the teams came off for bad light with six overs remaining.
Joseph Clough shone with bat and ball for Bolton Villas, as his top score of 16 proved decisive in his teams’ total of 89-8 at Daisy Hill. He then took 4-3 as the home team were skittled for 26.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Cambing won a high-scoring game at Shelf by five runs.
John Breare produced the shock of the day in Division One as they secured a convincing win over last year’s runners-up Haworth Road.
Aire Wharf star Mark Harrison made 47 in Road’s total of 95-4 but Danny Forrest was in equally imperious form. His 49 not out came in rapid time as the newly-promoted team claimed a nine-wicket win in less than ten overs.
Windhill and Allerton made their home advantage count as they were victorious over Baildon Meths and Sandy Lane respectively, while Chris Welch (50no) and Gareth Marshall (45) were in the runs for Denholme, who won by nine runs at Bingley Congs.
* Clubs will be sorry to here that Calverley have had to resign from the league and will not be fulfiling any of their fixtures.
Umpires may have some blank weeks but these may possibly be filled.
