England and Yorkshire bowler Ajmal Shahzad has admitted that the hamstring injury which he picked up in the World Cup is still not allowing him to play at 100 per cent.
The paceman was speaking after impressing in the Tykes' win over Durham MCCU – but warned tonight that it might be a while before he is back to his best.
He said: “I feel like I am in decent rhythm but there is something not quite right at the moment. I am hopeful it will come as I bowl more and more because at the moment I do not feel 100 per cent.
“The injury is absolutely fine. It is just the fact that I have not bowled for seven weeks. I guess it will take a couple more weeks and then I will be fine.”
Shahzad’s latest comeback game was certainly a success though.
He finished with only his second-ever five-wicket haul in the first-class game to help the Tykes comfortably win their three-day match with the students.
Eventually set just 129 to win in the north east, Shahzad finishing with 5-61 as Durham MCCU were bowled out in their second-innings for 287, Yorkshire won by ten wickets.
Gary Ballance finished on an effortless 73 not out, with Joe Sayers again staking a claim for a place in the first-team with an unbeaten 53.
