Yorkshire endured a disappointing morning with the bat against Durham MCCU at the Racecourse Ground.
Resuming on day two of the three-day friendly on 118-0, they slipped to 242-5 at lunch in reply to the students’ first-innings score of 196.
Gary Ballance was the first to go, caught behind off Jonathan Salt just two balls into the day’s play for 72.
Stand-in captain Joe Sayers and Callum Geldart steadied the ship with a partnership of 54 before three wickets in as many overs saw the Tykes slump to 180-4.
This accounted for Geldart for 34, while Alex Lees and Alex Lilley both departed without scoring.
Ajmal Shazhad then came and went for a breezy 13, giving spinner Nathaniel Watkins a third wicket of the morning, before David Wainwright joined Sayers to bat out the session.
Sayers took lunch unbeaten on an impressive 88, with Wainwright on 27 as Yorkshire earned a first-innings lead of 46.
