Four wickets from David Wainwright during the afternoon session left Yorkshire in control of their three-day friendly against Durham MCCU on day one.
The students slumped from 111-2 at lunch to 190-6 at tea, with Wainwright having taken five wickets in total.
Much of the credit should go to stand-in captain Joe Sayers, who switched the spinner’s end at the Racecourse Ground.
Wainwright’s afternoon haul of opener Chris Jones, who departed for 69, Tom Westley (17), Shan Massod (6) and Rishabh Shah (13) followed his removal of Greg Smith for 22 in the morning.
It meant the Tykes would be confident of bowling their hosts out by the close of the opening day.
