Ryan Sidebottom has taken three wickets against his former county during a fabulous opening morning for Yorkshire at Headingley.
Defending champions Nottinghamshire, whose captain Chris Read won the toss and elected to bat, slumped to 56-6 before recovering to 100-6 from 29 overs at lunch.
Sidebottom’s expert nine-over burst, costing only 15 runs, was supplemented by two wickets for Rich Pyrah and one for Oliver Hannon-Dalby as the visitors were undone by prodigious swing.
Hannon-Dalby, one of two changes in the Yorkshire side, bowled Mark Wagh in the fourth over before Sidebottom got Paul Franks and Samit Patel with successive balls to leave the score at 7-3 in the fifth.
Pyrah struck with his first ball to pick up the wicket of Australian Adam Voges, and later had Read caught behind. Sandwiched in between was Sidebottom’s third wicket, that of Ali Brown.
Moin Ashraf and Steve Patterson were left out by Andrew Gale and Martyn Moxon. Left-arm spinner David Wainwright has been included in the XI.
Alex Hales and Steven Mullaney will resume this afternoon unbeaten on 54 and 15 respectively.
