Martyn Moxon believes the back-to-back LV= County Championship matches against Nottinghamshire could be the making or breaking of his Yorkshire side this summer.
The White Rose county’s director of professional cricket has seen his troops win one and lose one of their opening two fixtures.
After the opening-round win against Worcester, many were tipping Yorkshire as title favourites but defeat against Durham has dampened expectations.
Yorkshire host the champions, starting tomorrow, before playing the return fixture at Trent Bridge in a fortnight’s time.
Moxon said: “I guess we will have a good idea of where we are after these two games.
“I said last year that we needed to wait until the half-way stage before we could start making any predictions but we’ll have played four games after these two against Notts. We’ll know roughly where we stand by then.”
Moxon does not anticipate making any changes to his 13-man squad for the visit of Chris Read’s men, who won their first match against Hampshire on Saturday.
David Wainwright and Oliver Hannon-Dalby were the non starters against Durham.
And that means no place for England bowler Ajmal Shahzad as he recovers from a hamstring injury, although he is expected to play against Holland in Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 opener at Headingley.
He could then play in next Wednesday’s three-day friendly against Durham University at the Racecourse ground.
