Bradford League sides Woodlands and Spen Victoria won through to the second round of the Heavy Woollen Cup.
Woodlands lost three early wickets chasing Methley’s 251 and looked certain to lose but won by one wicket thanks to a four off the last ball by 18-year-old Scott Richardson.
Tim Orrell (79) and Chris Brice (63) had revived Woodlands’ innings with a fifth-wicket stand of 127 and big-hitting Sarfraz Ahmed blasted a rapid 44.
Barnsley’s defeat at Spen Victoria was the biggest surprise of the day.
The Yorkshire League side had three Yorkshire players – Oliver Hannon Dalby, Azeem Rafiq and Gary Ballance – in their side and looked in control as they had the home side in deep trouble at 90-7, with Hannon Dalby taking 3-15.
But Spen’s tail wagged vigorously, with new recruit Joel Pollard blasting 53 and Craig Woodhead an unbeaten 30 as the home side scored a respectable 185 all out.
Barnsley lost wickets steadily in reply as Robert Warriner (3-22), Rob Burton (3-39) and Craig Woodhead (3-10) seized the initiative and dismissed the visitors for 130.
Gomersal, Hanging Heaton and Yeadon also progressed, but Bradford-based Halifax League side Jer Lane lost by three wickets to Huddersfield League side Shelley.
Replying to Lane’s total of 257-7, Shelley hit 261-7 off 49.1 overs.
