Five wickets in the afternoon session of day one helped Yorkshire turn the tide against Durham at Headingley.
Durham slumped from 106-0 before lunch to 196-7, before advancing to 212-7 from 64 overs at tea in this LV= County Championship clash.
Ryan Sidebottom struck three times during the second session, while Moin Ashraf took his first wicket of the season and there was also a run-out.
Durham played some kamikaze cricket, with Ian Blackwell the main culprit as he tried to crash Sidebottom through the covers and was bowled.
Opener Will Smith (37) was not happy with the decision when he was run out thanks to a direct hit by Steve Patterson from mid-on early in the session.
Debutant wicketkeeper Michael Richardson at least kept Durham’s heads above water with an unbeaten 61.
