Keighley RZM are intent on entering the record books again in 2011.
The club won the Quaid-e-Azam League for the third successive season last year, making it four titles in total since they were promoted to the top division in 2003.
Now RZM need just one more crown to equal the record for premier section wins.
Some superb individual performances in 2010 were capped off when the Keighley outfit clinched the Darulshafa Eight-A-Side Cup for a record fourth time, as well as finishing runners-up in the Solly Sports League Cup.
Club secretary Naheem Malik is hoping the team, who have a number of youngsters coming through the ranks, can carry on where they left on in the Sunday competition held across Yorkshire and Lancashire.
“It’s a highly competitive league and it’s going to be tough,” he said.
“There were a couple of good teams promoted (Karmand and Lahore) and West Bowling, with Babar Butt, should be challenging.
“But we are hoping to continue in the same vein and hope to make one or two more additions.”
Last season proved a particularly record-breaking one for Gulsheraz Ahmed, the leading batsman and wicketkeeper of the team.
The former Keighley Cricket Club player, now with Manningham Mills, hit a staggering 1,347 runs, smashing the previous league record of 874 set way back in 1994.
Gulsheraz hit five centuries in reaching the landmark, which was another league first.
In recognition of these achievements, Gulsheraz won three awards at the Quaid-e-Azam annual presentation ceremony – for wicketkeeping, most runs in a season and best average.
Fellow RZM player Zeeshan Qasim, formerly of Silsden and now at Manningham Mills, took the award for the most wickets in a season (34).
As well as Bradford League players, RZM’s team includes ones from the Aire-Wharfe and Craven leagues.
Among them are Yasir Ali (Green Lane, formerly of Silsden), Shahid Nadeem (Skipton), Omar Khatab (Cullingworth) and Nasser Kamal (Riddlesden).
Malik thanked Keighley CC, and skipper Ross Towler in particular, for allowing them to use their Lawkholme Lane ground on occasion alongside their Saltaire base.
He also thanked main sponsors RZM Chemists, Northern Leaf Catering and Khan Solicitors.
