Jason Wright rounded off a fine weekend’s cricket with a man-of-the-match display as Burley lifted the Waddilove Cup for the seventh time in their history.
Wright played a big part in Burley’s win over Kirkstall Educational in the Aire-Wharfe League on Saturday, scoring 31 runs and taking four wickets to help his side stay top of Division One.
The following day, faced by a Bilton side who are running away with the Division Two title and were cup winners three years in a row from 2004, Wright struck early by taking out the top three batsmen with only 29 on the board.
Neil Davies also picked up a couple of wickets to see half the Bilton batting back in the pavilion for 80.
And even though the tail rallied, three wickets from Mark Harrison and two by Shane Etherington restricted Bilton to 162.
Wright then opened the batting to score 26 and with David Brook cracking 40, Burley were always in control.
Harrison (24no) and Nick Brook (31no) then saw them take the trophy for the first time in ten years.
