Wrenthorpe will be bidding to equal a record that has stood for 120 years when they meet Hanging Heaton in the Heavy Woollen Cup final at Bennett Lane on Sunday (midday).
The Central Yorkshire League side are chasing a fourth successive cup triumph – something that was last done by Dewsbury Saville between 1887 and 1890.
Leading their bid for glory is former Yorkshire all-rounder Gary Fellows, who has been man-of-the-match in the last two finals.
The Wrenthorpe skipper might be a hot tip for the award again. Already this season he has scored 833 runs in 14 league innings with an average of 91.3.
He has also been prolific in the Heavy Woollen Cup, making 169 in the semi-final win over Shepley, 125 in the first round triumph against Delph & Dobcross and 98 in the second round victory against Yeadon.
Hanging Heaton, who will be playing on their home ground, are the first JCT 600 Bradford League Division Two side to reach the final since 2002, when Keighley defeated Baildon.
Hanging Heaton have won the trophy eight times and their skipper John Carruthers – a survivor from his club’s last cup winning side in 2000 – will be looking to the likes of former Yorkshire leg spinner Mark Lawson, batsman Haroon Rashid and the consistent Rob McFarlane to stop Wrenthorpe’s run of success.
