Yorkshire will be confident of chalking up their fifth consecutive Clydesdale Bank 40 win after restricting Middlesex to a below-par total of 183-9 at Lord’s this afternoon.

Despite their last 40-over fixture being on May 15, in which time the Tykes have failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Friends Provident Twenty20 competition, Andrew Gale’s men have hit the ground running on their return.

Ajmal Shahzad celebrated retaining his place in England’s Test squad with four wickets as he tests his fitness following two weeks out with hamstring and ankle injuries, the 24 year-old finishing with 4-34 from eight.

Tim Bresnan, left out of England’s 12 for the first Test against Pakistan at Trent Bridge on Thursday, also returned an impressive 2-32 from his eight.

David Wainwright finished with 2-31 from six, while Adil Rashid returned 1-39.

Despite this pitch being used for the recent Test match between Pakistan and Australia, it is still pretty good to bat on.

But Gareth Berg top-scored with 40 off 69 balls and Tom Scollay hit a late 32 off 33 balls.

Shahzad took a wicket with his second ball, that of Scott Newman, caught behind by Jonny Bairstow.

He also bowled Scollay in the 38th over before Tom Smith was caught at mid-off by Wainwright and Shaun Udal was caught and bowled in his last over, the last of the innings.
