An incredible spell of bowling by Johnny Hudson set up John Breare for a narrow win against Calverley St Wilfrid’s in one of several thrilling Bradford Evening League matches.

St Wilfrid’s, convincing Division Two winners the previous week, found batting much harder this time against Hudson.

The paceman took four wickets, all clean bowled, in his three overs while conceding just one run as Calverley were all out for 66.

Gareth Lee (3-7) was in similar inspirational form as the hosts also struggled but he had to leave the field after completing his spell, leaving his team with only ten men.

It was left to Ben Waller to play a masterful innings of 35 not out, hitting the winning runs with just one ball to spare as his side edged a three-wicket success.

An even closer encounter finished in a tie between Tong Park and Sandy Lane.

Park duo Johnny Wilkinson (54no) and Maz Bhatti (26no) helped their side post an impressive 136 for four.

But the Sandy Lane batsmen rose to the challenge, with Jamie Robson (53no) and Anthony Heaton (43) to the fore as their side responded with 136 for three.

Elsewhere, Mayfield gained their first win and there were away victories for Crossflatts and HSA.

In Division One, Thornton, Denholme and Windhill all continued their winning starts with home wins over Allerton, Indian Panthers and Bingley Congs respectively.

In the other match, Nadeem Mohammed (50no) was in fine form as he helped Haworth Road to a total of 142 for four.

A valiant Baildon Meths reply, led by Brad Hinchcliffe (46), steered them at 85 for three but four wickets by last season’s leading bowler Andy Gudgeon meant their reply concluded on 106 for eight.
