Martyn Moxon says Yorkshire's fortnight in Barbados will put the finishing touches to their pre-season preparations.

The White Rose squad touched down on the Caribbean Island tonight knowing that their first LV County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on April 9 is looming large on the horizon.

"We haven't got much time - it's just over a week after we come back that we start the season," said Moxon, the club's director of professional cricket.

"Barbados finishes off the work that we've been doing all winter, and we need to come home match fit and ready to go.

"We also want to have plans available for the various competitions and have a good idea of what our team's going to be."

Yorkshire will play on eight days out of the 14, featuring in two two-day games against Derbyshire and Lancashire, possibly three Twenty20 matches and two 40-over contests.

Moxon continued: "It's been geared around 50-over cricket on previous pre-season tours (to the UAE), but I wanted it this way purposefully. Once we're into the season we haven't got any days available to practice various forms of the game."

Yorkshire will train at Queen's Park Cricket Club near Bridgetown tomorrow and Tuesday before facing Derbyshire at the 3 Ws Oval on Wednesday.

Moxon added: "Wins are probably the last thing we're looking for, although it's always nice to win. We won't be looking to lose, but it's more about the lads getting match practice in the various forms of the game.

"The boys have worked really hard all winter. They look in really good shape. We're all looking forward to getting outside for some quality match practice."

Joe Sayers, speaking last week at the launch of Yorkshire's partnership with MacMillan Cancer Support, said: "There is important form to find in the middle, overs in the legs if you are a bowler.

"But we've always approached pre-season with a view to winning every game because forming a winning habit before the season starts can't do any damage.

"It gives you a good boost and platform to go on and have a good April and May.

"We'll be approaching the games as we have done in previous years - going out to win. Hopefully we can get one over on the opposition we play in the coming months.

"We have found that success over other counties in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the last couple of winters has given us a mental edge when we play them again in the summer."

Yorkshire will be without Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad, Jacques Rudolph and Daryl Tuffey, who are still overseas in Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand respectively.
